Como secure a historic Serie A win as fans get free drinks

Como have finally secured their first Serie A win of the season, their first in over two decades.

This was also their first win at the home ground of Atalanta since the 1973-74 season.

The game initially scheduled for Monday had to be postponed for 25 hours due to a rain-soaked pitch.

Atalanta went ahead in the first half through Davide Zappacosta but crumbled to three goals within 12 minutes from Gabriel Strefezza, Nico Paz, and Alie Fadera to send Como and coach Fabregas on their way to their first Serie A victory of the season at the Gewiss Stadium.

Ademola Lookman reduced the deficit to 3-2 from the penalty spot, which was virtually the last kick of the game.

The first chance came through the way of the hosts through Mateo Retegui, who steered an effort on target from the center of the penalty area after some neat work from Charles De Ketelaere. Emil Audero was called to act to steer it behind for a corner.

Atalanta eventually got their lead through Zappacosta with 18 minutes on the clock. A Raoul Bellanova was headed clear to the edge of the area, where the Italian was waiting, and the right back dispatched an improvised half-volley into the near corner of the net for 1–0.

From there, Como had the better chances of the first half, testing Marco Carnesecchi, who had to be alert to keep a couple of Cutrone efforts out.

The visitors showed that they mean business, having ended the first 45 minutes with five shots, three on target, compared to Atalanta’s two, leveling the tie 20 seconds into the second half.

A wonderful flick from Sergi Roberto on the edge of the area found Gabriel Strefezza, who sent a powerful effort past Carnesecchi into the far corner of the net.

Como turned it around with 52 minutes gone as Nico Paz tried with a powerful long-range effort, which took a massive deflection off Sead Kolasinac on its way in and eventually went down as an own goal.

The visitors made it three two minutes later after the re-start. Nico Paz again released a perfect long ball over the top to  Fadera, who bent a tidy finish past Carnesecchi from the left-hand side of the area.

As Como defended their lead excellently,  Atalanta spent most of the final third camped in their opposition’s half but struggled to find the breakthrough.

They then reduced the scoreline at the penultimate kick of the game, when debutant Vanja Vlahovic, who came on for his senior debut midway through the second half, was brought down in the area.

Substitute Lookman stepped up to take it and slammed it straight down the middle with the game’s final touch.

Having secured their first win of the season, Como fans will get a reward for free drinks in local bars across their city.

The promoted side had promised that if Cesc Fabregas’ me beat Atalanta, they would buy a round of drinks for fans watching the game in several local bars.

“If you are in Como, follow tonight’s game in one of these bars and get a free drink in case of victory,” the Serie A side announced on social media.

The team’s fans can follow the match in one of the club’s ten bars, which will give away a free drink in case of victory.

Como have also promised that for every win, both home and away, they will offer a free round of drinks to customers already seated in the partner bars at the final whistle. The initiative is known as ‘Cheers4Como’ and continues a tradition the club started last season.

Como, who were knocked out of the Coppa Italia in their first game, had picked up just two points before this game, with draws against Bologna and Cagliari.
