Deportivo La Coruna signs Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has returned to Spanish football, signing a two-year contract with newly promoted Deportivo La Coruna as the club prepares for its LaLiga comeback.

The Gabon international, frozen out of Marseille’s plans, completed the move for a reported €1.5 million.

For Deportivo, who secured promotion by finishing second in LaLiga 2 during the 2025-26 season, Aubameyang represents a major attacking boost.

The club will compete in Spain’s top flight for the first time since the 2017-18 campaign, having endured a difficult period that once saw them drop to the third tier.

Aubameyang’s LaLiga experience is limited but successful. In 2022, he spent four months at Barcelona, contributing to their league title win.

This marks his fifth club in six years and his second departure from Marseille. He originally joined the French side for the 2023-24 season, left, and then returned ahead of 2025-26.

In his most recent spell at the Stade Vélodrome, the 36-year-old made 41 appearances across all competitions, scoring 14 goals.

Ten of those came in Ligue 1, where he finished as the club’s second-highest scorer behind only Mason Greenwood. He also provided five assists, highlighting his enduring quality as a forward.

Deportivo fans will be hoping Aubameyang can bring his proven goal-scoring instinct to help the Galician side avoid an immediate return to the second division.

The team kicks off their LaLiga campaign at home against Elche on August 17.

The signing adds experience and attacking pedigree to a Deportivo squad aiming to establish itself back among Spain’s elite.

For Aubameyang, it offers a fresh opportunity to prove his value at a historic club eager to rebuild its top-flight status.
