Disappointed with ourselves – Erik ten Hag after Manchester United loss to Wrexham

 

Manchester United head coach Erik Ten Hag was disappointed after club’s 3-1 loss against Wrexham in San Diego on Tuesday night at the Snapdragon Stadium. The Dutchman had decided to field a youth team against Wrexham but the young players could not come up with a complete performance.

Meanwhile, United’s senior team travelled to Houston ahead of their game against Real Madrid on Wednesday whereas the youth side took on the League Two side.

Ten Hag reckons the youngsters were a bit erratic in their structure and could not deliver the goods for the team.

Alvaro Fernandez, Dan Gore and Hannibal, who are part of the team’s first team tour group, were part of the starting XI but the rest of players were relatively inexperienced for the top level.

“It’s always disappointing, we’re disappointed with ourselves,” Ten Hag said while speaking to MUTV. “The way we played in the first half was a little bit erratic. We lacked structure, we had some other objectives [that we didn’t reach].

The Dutch tactician is confident the young players will learn from their mistakes and bounce back stronger in the upcoming opportunities.

“But they are young players, we have to learn from it and I’m sure they will. That (a physical battle) is what happens in top football, definitely in the Premier League and our players have to get used to it.

“This is men’s football and it’s really good that they have this experience. The result is negative but you learn from it. It’s a learning moment and as players for Man United, you have to deal with the pressure of the crowd.

“It’s good that we had this and from negative moments you learn, so we have to take that.”

Meanwhile, Marc Jurado scored for Manchester United in the stoppage time of the first half whereas the Red Devils were reduced to 10-man after Daniel Gore received a red card in the 47th minute.

Manchester United will take on Real Madrid on Wednesday night.
