EPL Title Race Almost Over for City After Loss to Spurs

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City can kiss the English Premier League title goodbye after losing to Tottenham Hotspur by 2-1 at the new White Hart Lane Stadium in London on Sunday evening.

The loss is a second for Manchester City in a row in all competitions after losing to Manchester United at the Etihad in the EFL Cup midweek.

Although it is the first loss in 7 games in the English Premier League for the Champions since a 3-2 reverse to Wolves in December.

Pep Guardiola’s side should have taken the lead in the first half of the game, just five minutes before the interval after an infringement was made on Sergio Aguero in the box.

Although Referee Mike Dean had to consult the VAR for the decision, Ilkay Gundogan couldn’t make it count as his penalty was saved by French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

The visitors moments later made another appeal for a penalty, but it was on Mike Dean’s deaf ears as the game ended equal in the first half.

Manchester City were reduced to 10 men on the hour mark after Oleksandr Zinchenko was sent off for a second bookable offence leading to the reduction of Manchester city to ten.

Three minutes later, Steven Bergwijn scored his first goal for Tottenham Hotspur after enjoying a pass from Lucas before Son Heung-Min’s sealed the victory seven minutes later.

The defeat puts City 22 points in second place behind runaway leaders Liverpool who beat Southampton on Saturday.

In other games played on Sunday, Arsenal travelled toTurf Mur to face Burnley, but Mikel Arteta’s side could only settle for another draw, the Gunners’ fourth in five matches played.

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang was at fault after squandering Arsenal beat chances of the game. Arsenal sits in the tenth position with 31 points the same as Burnley, who are just a spot below them.

Manchester City are fancied at 1.12 to defeat West Ham United, while the Hammers are backed at 22.75.
