Ex-Bayern Star backs Hansi Flick to be new manager

Lothar Matthaus ex-star of Bayern Munich has supported Hans Flick to manage the affairs of the first team till the end of the season.

The Bavarians capped off a daunting weekend with a brilliant 4-0 victory over rivals Borussia Dortmund. The win placed the defending champions a place above on the league table; third and one point behind Borussia Monchengladbach.

Expectations were high on the players after a disappointing 5-1 defeat at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt. That result led to the dismissal of Niko Kovac, and the pressure keeps on building on the players.

Flick was given the job temporarily till the appointment of a new manager. And he did very well by preparing the team against Olympiakos and Dortmund respectively winning both matches convincingly, and this has given them confidence and an excellent platform to stay on course going into the winter break.

The interim manager is backed to pilot the affairs of the team till the end of the season. Lothar Matthaus, a former player who has played for the Club, revealed in an interview that Hansi Flick has his full support to keep his role ahead of other options. But he believes the Bavarians will hire a big-name manager in the summer.

Lothar, when quizzed as regards his thoughts of Hansi Flick being the interim manager, he told reporters that ” During my time in Bayern, Hansi [Flick] played together 1985 and 1988 and I’m pretty sure he’s good enough. He has an understanding of how things are done in the Club and also great communication skills with players, both the starting eleven and the those on the bench. As regards the long term solution, I think the Club will get a big name”.

The Club chairman and President Uli Höeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted after the Dortmund game that Flick will continue his role as the interim manager.

Though names have been lined up for the vacant managerial position and former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been linked to the position. It appears that the Frenchman wants the job permanently rather than a caretaker role. Things will have to remain like this until a permanent replacement is found.

Bayern Munich are fancied at 1.35 to win the dfb-Pokal and Bundesliga this season. A possibility of them not winning the double is given at 2.95.
