FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta warns Ronald Koeman after series of underwhelming results

FC Barcelona have had one of their worst starts to this season’s La Liga. The Blaugrana recently drew against Granada and are eighth in the points table. Hence pressure is building for their Dutch boss Ronald Koeman who is considered to be on borrowed time.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has already warned Koeman that if results don’t improve for the Catalans then he will have to take tough decisions. It has been tough for Koeman as well as he saw players like Lionel Messi, Antoine Greizmann and others leave Camp Nou this summer.

Laporta recently revealed how Koeman enjoys full support from the board but if results don’t improve then he won’t be afraid to axe the Dutchman.

“We are responsible for managing the club,” Laporta has told El Chiringuito. “We have more information when it comes to making decisions and we have to consider everything much more.

“It is not a problem for us to make decisions of any kind, and if we have to take them at a certain time, we will take them, [either if they are] economic, sporting or social.

“We are behind the coach. [Koeman] is the coach of Barcelona’s first team and what we want is for things to go well for him.

“The coaches, not only Koeman, depend a lot on their results and in the case of Barcelona, [they are judged] every game. But Koeman is our coach and we are behind him now.”

The biggest psychological blow for Barcelona was Lionel Messi’s departure from Camp Nou. The new look Barcelona team with several new signings started with a 4-1 drubbing of Real Sociedad with Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia flourishing. However, things turned south with a 1-1 draw against Athletic Club. They picked up the mojo with a 2-1 win against Getafe but they followed it with a 3-0 defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Their defeat against Bayern made it evident that they are no longer the elite team that used to dominate the European circuit. The results have not improved even after the Champions League clash as they somehow managed a 1-1 draw against Granada with Ronald Araujo scoring at the 90th minute. While people thought Barcelona will find form against Cadiz and even against them the Blaugrana have only managed a 0-0 draw as Frenkie De Jong was sent off in the 65th minute. With the current spell of results, the future at Camp Nou looks very gloomy for Ronald Koeman.
