Former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell wants the Gunners to sign Wolves centre back Conor Coady. Campbell feels that the current players in Mikel Arteta’s roster are soft and they need a tough player like Coady this summer to secure up the backline.
Arsenal had another disappointing season in the Premier League as they finished eighth yet again. Hence they need some reinforcements this summer to improve their performances for the upcoming season.
The Gunners have been often allowed cheap goals and have been the orchestrators of their own downfall in the recently concluded season. They have lacked a leader at the back who can marshall the troops and Campbell feels Coady can be that man for Arsenal.
The former Arsenal defender feels that Coady who has featured in 113 appearances in the Premier League for the Wolves has that defensive resilience to make Arsenal instantly better. The experience that he brings with him to the lineup will also be an added bonus for the Gunners.
Campbell told Ladbrokes: “There’s a lot of players out there who can fit the Arsenal mould. Conor Coady is a good player; he’s comfortable on the ball, he’s a winner.
“He’s definitely got the kind of mentality Arsenal should be looking at in new players. He’s definitely someone they should look at because he’s so solid, he wants to defend.”
Campbell highlights how Coady can pass well, has that strength and is also good in the air making him the ideal choice for the North London outfit.
“He can pass as well, he’s quick, he’s strong, he’s good in the air. He’s a good all-rounder and he’s got a bit about him,” Campbell added.
“He’s at a good club now in Wolves, but he’s actually someone I’d be looking at for Arsenal this summer. He’s got a great attitude as well, and I like that.”
Coady has been a real struggler for the Wolves as he has been a defensive mainstay for the Molineux club. His resilient performances have rewarded him with the England callup. Coady is in the 26-member England side that is travelling for the upcoming Euros.
While Coady can be a great option for Arsenal as he will bring in that leadership and winning mentality into the team. But luring him away from the Molineux will be the biggest challenge for the Gunners and also for Mikel Arteta.
