French Super Cup: Lee and Mbappe secure title for PSG side in 2-0 win over Toulouse

It was a well-deserved victory at the Parc Des Princes when Paris St. Germain clinched the French Super Cup following a 2-0 victory over Toulouse.

Goals from Kang In Lee and Julian Mbappe made sure Luis Enrique had a taste of his first title in charge of the French club capital.

The damage was done in the first half as Lee wasted no time in breaking the deadlock with just three minutes into the contest.

Toulouse came to leveling things when Thijs Dalinga’s effort was denied at the other end by the impressive Gigi Donnaruma in goal.

Just before the stroke of Halftime, Kylian Mbappe doubled his side’s lead following a fine individual effort from the number 10.

With the resumption of the second half, Enrique’s men failed to turn on the tempo as they did in the first half. Achraf Hakimi’s strike hit the woodwork with a swerving, long-range free kick in what would have been a brilliant strike and lived in the memory of the Parisiens faithful.

Donnaruma, who has been in some fine form, even had to make two brilliant saves in the closing stages, keeping his clean sheet intact by rebuffing Dalinga and Cassere’s shots coupled with every other attempt made towards his goal. He is just too perfect for a night such as this.

Wednesday’s win was the 12th successful victory for PSG, five more than rivals Lyon in the history of the competition.

Up next for both sides is a Coupe de France fixture, with PSG traveling to sixth-tier side Revel on Sunday while Toulouse also heads to fifth-tier side Chambery.

As for Enrique, his first silverware as the Boss of the defending champions will spur him to deliver more trophies to the capital as he aims to land another Ligue 1 title as well.
