Fulham holds Liverpool in dramatic 2-2 draw in dramatic Sunday fixtures

Fulham snatched a dramatic 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Craven Cottage with a stunning stoppage-time equaliser from Harrison Reed, moments after Cody Gakpo appeared to have won the game for the visitors.

The late twist capped a breathless Premier League afternoon in which four 15:00 GMT matches delivered goals and controversy.

Liverpool thought they had sealed victory in the 94th minute when Gakpo turned in Jeremie Frimpong’s cross at the far post, sparking wild celebrations among the away support.

But Fulham refused to fold, and deep into added time Reed collected the ball around 30 yards from goal and unleashed a thunderous strike into the top corner to level the match.

The equaliser, Reed’s first goal since April 2023, was widely hailed as a contender for goal of the season. Former Fulham and Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer described it as “absolutely incredible,” while fans from both sides admitted there was little goalkeeper Alisson could have done to prevent it.

Elsewhere, Brentford produced an emphatic 4-1 win away at Everton, inspired by a hat-trick from Igor Thiago.

Brentford boss Keith Andrews praised his striker’s “sensational” performance, while captain Nathan Collins highlighted Thiago’s work rate and confidence in front of goal.

“Strikers live and breath [goals] and get a lot of confidence from it. He’s played well without scoring recently. His performance today was sensational. He deserves the accolades.” He said.

Newcastle United continued their upward momentum with a 2-0 home victory over Crystal Palace. Manager Eddie Howe said patience was key against a stubborn Palace side, crediting his substitutes and praising teenager Lewis Miley for excelling out of position at full-back.

In the day’s other match, Leeds United drew 1-1 with Manchester United after Brenden Aaronson opened the scoring before Matheus Cunha equalised, though Cunha later had a goal disallowed and Dominic Calvert-Lewin struck the post.

As the dust settled, it was Reed’s extraordinary strike in west London that defined an unforgettable Premier League afternoon.
