Gasperini holds talks with Roma owners over transfer

Gian Piero Gasperini has met with one of Roma’s owners, Ryan Friedkin, for a pivotal discussion over the club’s transfer plans.

Roma recently recorded a 2-0 victory against Leece on Tuesday with goals courtesy of Evan Ferguson and Artem Dovbyk, but coach Gasperini boycotted post-match interviews to highlight his unhappiness over the club’s transfer strategy.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, the Italian tactician expects reinforcements in attack, with Giacomo Raspadori and Joshua Zirkzee among his favourite targets for the January window.

His frustration has grown as negotiations are progressing slowly.

Sporting director Frederic Massara had said before the Lecce game that signing a new centre-forward was “not an emergency” for Roma.

Gasperini is still not impressed by Ferguson and Dovbyk and has long been asking for attacking reinforcements behind the scenes as both remain under huge pressure for the capital club.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Italian tactician met with Friedkin to discuss Roma’s strategy.

Friedkin has been in the capital since January 5. As of the time of this report, we couldn’t confirm whether his father, Dan, was also able to attend the meeting.

In the meantime, the club directors remain in “constant contact” with Gasperini ahead of a meeting that will likely clarify the club’s winter transfer plans.

Massara confirmed on Tuesday that negotiations are progressing for Raspadori, while  Zirkzee’s situation was complicated by Manchester United’s sacking of Ruben Amorim.

In a related development, Massara will travel to Milan, where he’ll meet Raspadori’s agents to discuss the transfer.

Roma seems eager to move forward in negotiations with the Atletico Madrid striker.

According to Gazzetta, a meeting between the striker’s camp and Giallorossi director Massara will take place in the coming hours.

Reports say both clubs seem to have reached an agreement, but Raspadori hasn’t yet made up his mind about his future, as Lazio, Atalanta, Napoli, and Galatasaray are also interested in securing his services.
