Premier League sides have backed off from the pursuit of Jonathan David due to his substantial financial demands.
The Canadian international will be a free agent next summer. The 25-year-old significant financial demands have been revealed.
According to a report by Sacha Tavolieri, David is expected to leave Lille OSC this summer as his contract expires at the end of the season, and there are no hints of a renewal.
This is, therefore, a significant opportunity on the market, especially given the scarcity of affordable center-forward options on the market.
However, despite the ‘free’ tag, David won’t come cheap. Tavolieiri said the Canadian international is demanding a gross salary of €9m per year and a signing-on fee of €15m. He will earn a commission of around €10m, meaning that the ‘free’ transfer would cost around €34m.
This has, therefore, put him off Premier League sides like Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, and West Ham United, who are all interested in him this summer.
The Premier League regulations surrounding the structuring of such ‘free’ transfers are putting off England’s elite. This gas put Italian clubs in front of the deal.
According to reports in Italy, Juventus have already begun talks with the player’s entourage, whilst Inter Milan have a strong interest in bringing him to the San Siro.
Although a free agent, David will be a good addition to any squad because of his knack for goals and team play.
Juventus will be a good destination, as Inter already have their attacking line filled up. The Turin club will welcome a potent striker as Disan Vlahovic may leave.
David has played 25 matches for the Ligue 1 club this season, scoring 14 goals and assisting three goals.
The striker has also scored 32 goals in 61 international appearances, making him the country’s all-time top goalscorer.
