Arsenal and Tottenham to face off in Hong Kong derby

In a historic move, Arsenal and Tottenham will contest the first-ever North London derby outside the UK when they meet in a pre-season friendly in Hong Kong this summer. The highly anticipated match is scheduled to take place on July 31 at the newly-opened Kai Tak Stadium, kicking off at 7:30 pm local time (11:30 am BST).

This summer-friendly is part of the Hong Kong Football Festival, which will also feature Premier League rivals Liverpool taking on AC Milan on July 26. The event promises to bring excitement to football fans in the region, with two of the world’s top leagues represented.

The north London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham will mark a new chapter in the rivalry, with both teams looking to make a statement ahead of the 2025-26 season. Arsenal last toured Hong Kong in 2012, while Tottenham visited Japan and South Korea in 202.

Several Premier League clubs are set to tour the United States as part of their pre-season preparations, with Manchester United already confirmed to play two post-season friendlies in Hong Kong and Malaysia. Chelsea and Manchester City, however, are yet to make decisions on their pre-season schedules due to their involvement in the upcoming Club World Cup.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy emphasizes the need for “smart and sustainable” spending in the transfer market, following the club’s latest financial results. Despite being the ninth richest club in the world, Levy stresses that spending must be responsible and not compromise financial stability. Tottenham’s total revenue decreased by 4% to £528.2m, with a reduction in losses after tax from £86.8m to £26.2m.

The decrease in revenue was attributed to a drop in UEFA prize money, from £56.2m to £1.3m. Operating expenses decreased by 7% to £453.6m, and match receipts dropped to £105.8m from £117.6m. However, Tottenham’s net debt increased to £772.5m, up from £677.4m. Levy’s comments come amid fan protests over perceived lack of investment in the playing squad.
