Guirassy’s return lifts Dortmund for 138th Klassiker clash

As the 138th Klassiker looms, Borussia Dortmund received a significant boost with Serhou Guirassy’s return to full training ahead of their clash with Bayern Munich on Saturday.

Guirassy, who missed Guinea’s 2-2 draw against Botswana due to an injury sustained after being an unused substitute against Mozambique, is now cleared to face the Bundesliga leaders. His availability strengthens Dortmund’s squad for this pivotal Matchday 7 encounter.

Guirassy scored 21 goals in 30 Bundesliga matches in 2024-25, a tally only surpassed by Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane (26) in the top tier.

The Dortmund star began the season strongly, netting four goals in his opening three games against St. Pauli, Union Berlin, and Heidenheim.

Reports confirm that, barring long-term injuries to Emre Can and Julien Duranville, manager Niko Kovač will have a near-full roster at his disposal.

However, defender Aarón Anselmino, recently back from injury, is unlikely to be match-ready despite partial integration into first-team training.

With Bayern Munich leading the Bundesliga and Dortmund trailing by four points in second place, the stakes are high.

Dortmund aim to narrow the gap in this fiercely contested fixture, known for its intensity and historic rivalry. Guirassy’s return could prove crucial as BVB seek to challenge Bayern’s dominance and make a statement in the title race.

Dortmund have significantly bounced back from last season’s struggles under head coach Kovač. An impressive 14-game unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga, starting in mid-March, has solidified their position as Germany’s second-strongest team.

The Klassiker, a cornerstone of German football, promises another thrilling chapter as both teams vie for supremacy.

Dortmund’s attacking prowess, bolstered by Guirassy, will face a stern test against Bayern’s formidable lineup. Fans eagerly await the outcome of this high-stakes showdown at the Alianz Arena.
