Erling Haaland has called for unity among Manchester City supporters as the club deals with the fallout from its recent guilty verdict over financial breaches.
The Norwegian striker urged fans and players to remain positive as City prepare for a crucial Premier League clash with Liverpool.
“They’re going to have a good time. We have to stick together. We have to stay together and stay positive. No matter what happens in life, we always have to have a smile. So we have to stay positive, look ahead, and try to win football games and try to enjoy the situation and win the game. We have to stick together; we have to spread the love to each other. So yeah: stick together, and enjoy the ride and smile,” the striker explained.
Haaland said the club must stick together and focus on winning matches despite the uncertainty surrounding the verdict.
The forward, whose father Alf-Inge previously played for City, also said he considers himself a supporter and cares deeply about the club and its fans.
His comments come after an independent commission found Manchester City guilty of multiple financial breaches between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons.
The commission found that the club had used what it described as a disguised funding scheme involving commercial partners and sham contracts.
The commission concluded that the arrangements artificially increased City’s revenues by more than £830m and helped the club circumvent financial regulations.
The commission upheld more than 100 breaches, including allegations about the club’s conduct during the lengthy investigation.
City have rejected the findings and are preparing to appeal, with the legal process potentially extending into 2027.
The club has also questioned the fairness and independence of the process, while stressing that it has respected due process throughout the eight-year case.
Attention now turns to the pitch, with City traveling to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday before hosting Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain.
Haaland has made a strong start to the Premier League season and said matches against Liverpool are always special, but insisted City must remain focused despite the legal uncertainty surrounding the club.
