Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has spoken out regarding the uncertain future of Uruguayan defender Ronald Araújo, addressing growing speculation that the player could be set to depart the Camp Nou this summer.
Araújo, once considered a cornerstone of Barcelona’s defence, endured a challenging 2024/25 campaign that raised questions about his long-term role at the club.
The 26-year-old centre-back spent the first half of last season sidelined with injury. Upon returning to action, Araújo struggled to recapture the dominant form that previously made him a fan favourite.
His inconsistent performances led to mounting frustration among supporters, with many calling for the club to consider moving him on during the current transfer window.
Despite the external noise, Barcelona’s management has remained steadfast in its stance, publicly backing Araújo and insisting that he remains an integral part of the club’s defensive setup.
Club executives have repeatedly dismissed rumours of an impending sale, highlighting their confidence in the player’s ability to bounce back under new leadership.
Hansi Flick, who took over managerial duties ahead of the 2025/26 season, echoed this sentiment during a media appearance on Wednesday.
When asked about Araújo’s future, Flick made it clear that he sees no reason to let the defender leave. “Why would he leave? There are always a lot of rumours, but I haven’t seen any sign that makes me think he’ll go. We have a very complete squad, with even three players for some positions. That’s good for us, it’s going to be a tough season,” he said.
With Flick’s public backing and no concrete offers materialising for Araújo thus far, it appears the defender will have a chance to reclaim his form and reestablish himself as a key figure in Barcelona’s backline.
For now, the club remains united in its support of the player, hoping he can silence critics with a strong showing in the upcoming campaign.
