Manchester United have identified RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Šeško as their primary transfer target to strengthen their attacking line this summer.
The 22-year-old Slovenian striker has caught the attention of several top clubs, but United have now taken concrete steps, initiating contact with Leipzig over a potential deal.
Šeško, who has scored 39 goals in 87 appearances for the Bundesliga side, is one of Europe’s most promising young forwards.
Standing at 6ft 5in, he brings a rare blend of physicality and technical ability, traits that Manchester United believe would enhance their front line. He also boasts an impressive international record, netting 16 goals in 41 appearances for Slovenia.
Despite recent links with Newcastle United, Manchester United have emerged as the first elite club to make a formal approach.
Šeško reportedly has a gentleman’s agreement with RB Leipzig that would allow him to leave if a top-tier club presents an offer in the region of £70 million. United are now weighing the terms of such a bid, confident they can make a competitive offer.
United are also monitoring Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, but a deal is seen as unlikely.
Villa have made it clear they are not open to selling the 29-year-old striker, and Manchester United are wary of overpaying for a player who would have limited resale value due to his age.
One potential complication is that Šeško does not entirely fit new manager Rúben Amorim’s preference for players with Premier League experience.
However, the striker’s age, skill set, and proven record in the Bundesliga make him a compelling option. United see him as a long-term asset who could develop into one of Europe’s elite forwards.
While United have already spent nearly £130 million this summer on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, club sources maintain that player sales are not essential for further acquisitions.
Still, the club is actively seeking buyers for fringe players, including Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Tyrell Malacia, none of whom were included in the squad for the Premier League Summer Series in the U.S.
