Harry Kane assures fans despite stalemate

England striker and skipper Harry Kane scored his first goal in Euro 2024, but it was not enough to see the Three Lions secure their second win of the competition in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Denmark.

The Bayern Munich forward pleaded with the fans along the lines that the team’s coach, Gareth Southgate, stated on Wednesday that fans are taking the team’s win for granted after criticism of the performance of the team’s 1-0 win over Serbia on Saturday.

Kane, after his eighth-minute goal, was equalized by a Hjulmand long-range effort eleven before halftime, and even though England failed to get a winning goal, he defended the team, saying no game is easy and that the team will take things step by step.

“I think we said before the tournament there are no easy games, and I think that’s showing. We’ve got levels we can reach, and we can be better both with and without the ball. We’re top of the group. We know we can improve. I know there will probably be loads of noise and a bit of disappointment back home, but we experienced this in the last Euros as well when we drew to Scotland. Step by step, we’ll get there.” Kane said.

Kane also said it was a good thing if the team could grind out results even when they were not playing well.

Meanwhile, manager Gareth Southgate was criticized for leaving out Chelsea’s Cole Palmer from his team all through the game as fans continue to grumble about the performance of the Three Lions, who have only scored two goals in two games.

England will face Slovenia in the last group stage match and will secure a place in the next round with a draw. Nevertheless, England still remained at the top of their group with four points from two games. Earlier on Thursday, Serbia and Slovenia played out a 1-1 draw.
