Hojlund continues hot form with brace at Luton Town

Rasmus Hojlund scored a brace in the first ten minutes of Manchester United’s 2-1 win at Luton Town on Sunday, their seventh away win of the season, as the Reds became the third team with the most wins on the road this season after only Manchester City and Arsenal (both eight) have won more Premier League away games.

The Red Devils have won all three they’ve played on the road in the competition in 2024, but this one was far from easy despite the early lead. Amari’i Bell’s mistake with a high ball allowed Rasmus Højlund in on goal, as the Dane went on to beat Thomas Kaminski to score after just 37 seconds.

The goal became United’s fastest-ever PL away goal, while Højlund also became the youngest player in the league to score in six successive games. He doubled his and United’s tally in the seventh minute from Alejandro Garnacho’s volley.

Luton Town didn’t roll over for United to wreak havoc, as in the 14th minute, Carlton Morris headed in to half the deficit and scored in a third successive game for the Hatters. The hosts continued to press for an equalizer as they dominated the rest of the entire game but had nothing to show for it.

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag revealed that the game was good; United could have scored more, but substituting Maguire and Casemiro was cautionary.

“It was very good, but then we had a big chance to score more. We dropped too deep and allowed them to get back in the game. We didn’t close the half spaces. It got difficult. We had big chances in the second half, and we didn’t take them. We should have scored in the second half with Bruno, Garnacho, and Rashford. I saw the reaction from the referee and thought they could go off with the next one. With McTominay and Evans, we have good replacements. Don’t take the risk. I thought it was the right decision.” Ten Hag said.
