Hojlund Shines as Manchester United Beat Bodø/Glimt: Europa League Round-Up

Rasmus Hojlund delivered a stellar performance, scoring twice as Manchester United came from behind to secure a 3-2 victory over Norwegian champions Bodø/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday. The win marked a successful European debut for new manager Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

Hojlund was instrumental throughout the match, assisting Alejandro Garnacho’s opening goal in the very first minute. Capitalizing on a back pass intercepted by Hojlund, Garnacho slotted home to give United an early lead.

However, Bodø/Glimt equalized in the 19th minute when Hakon Evjen unleashed a perfectly directed left-footed strike from the edge of the area.

The visitors seized the lead soon after as Philip Zinckernagel capitalized on a swift counterattack, punishing Tyrell Malacia’s failed attempt to stop him. Malacia, making his first senior appearance in 550 days, was substituted at halftime by Diogo Dalot.

Just before halftime, Hojlund leveled the score for United, showcasing his poise and precision. The Danish striker sealed the victory in the 50th minute, tapping in a pinpoint cross from Manuel Ugarte. The win keeps United unbeaten in the competition with two victories and three draws.

Amorim, who joined United after leaving Sporting Lisbon, also managed a 1-1 draw in his Premier League debut against Ipswich last weekend.

Tottenham Held to Late Draw Against Roma

Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League campaign continued its unpredictable trajectory as they were held to a 2-2 draw by AS Roma. Captain Son Heung-min converted a fifth-minute penalty, but Roma equalized through Evan N’Dicka in the 20th minute.

Brennan Johnson restored Tottenham’s lead before halftime, but Mats Hummels salvaged a stoppage-time draw for the visitors.

The result followed Spurs’ rollercoaster form, which included a 3-2 loss to Galatasaray and a stunning 4-0 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League.

Bilbao, Frankfurt Shine

Athletic Bilbao cruised to a 3-0 victory over Elfsborg, with Adama Boiro, Benat Prados, and Gorka Guruzeta finding the net. Frankfurt, the 2022 Europa League champions, secured a 2-1 win over Midtjylland. Lazio missed the chance to maintain a perfect record, drawing 0-0 with Ludogorets.

Elsewhere, Lyon thrashed Qarabag 4-1, thanks to a brace from Georges Mikautadze and goals from Corentin Tolisso and Malick Fofana. Maccabi Tel-Aviv ended a four-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Besiktas, played at a neutral venue in Hungary due to security concerns.

Chelsea’s UECL Domination Continues

Chelsea continued their perfect UEFA Conference League campaign with a 2-0 victory over Heidenheim. Christopher Nkunku and Mykhailo Mudryk scored for the Blues, who remain unbeaten in the competition. Midfielder Cesare Casadei was sent off in stoppage time after receiving a second yellow card.

As the Europa League nears its knockout stages, the race for qualification intensifies, with the top eight teams advancing directly to the Round of 16 and the next 16 teams entering a playoff round.
