Real Madrid’s former coach Zinedine Zidane has revealed that he left the club’s coaching job as the team’s management doesn’t have the faith in him that he requires. Zidane decided to step down as coach after a winless campaign for Madrid.
In fact, this is the first time since the 2009-10 season that the Spanish giants could not win a major trophy. However, Zidane has been instrumental in the success of the team. The Los Blancos had a winless season as they finished at the second place in the LA Liga with 84 points.
As a coach, he won an unprecedented three consecutive Champions League trophies in 2016, 2017 and 2018, as well as the club’s first La Liga title in five years in 2017.
In fact, Zidane never had a winless season with Real Madrid where he failed to take the team to any silverware except the 2020-21 season.
Zidane wrote a letter for the Madrid fans regarding his decision to walk away from the coaching role.
Spanish publication AS have released Zidane’s open letter for the supporters.
“Dear Real Madrid fans, for more than 20 years, from the first day I arrived in Madrid and wore the white shirt, you’ve shown me your love. I wanted to write this letter, to say goodbye to you and explain my decision to leave the coaching job.
“I’m going, but I’m not jumping overboard, nor am I tired of coaching. In May 2018 I left because after two and a half years, with so many victories and so many trophies, I felt the team needed a new approach to stay at the very highest level. Right now, things are different. I’m leaving because I feel the club no longer has the faith in me I need, nor the support to build something in the medium or long term”.
