Arsenal boss MIkel Arteta has paid no heed to the rising rumours of Kieren Tierney joining Premier League outfit Newcastle United. Some reports suggest that the Scottish versatile defender is someone who has impressed the Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe and hence he is keen to snap him up in the summer.
Many reports have claimed that Tierney is open to a move to St. James Park especially after the Gunners have signed OleksandrZinchenko. Tierney may have featured 25 times for the club in all competitions but has made 13 starting XI appearances. His performances have been noteworthy whenever he has featured for the Gunners and hence Howe feels that signing him for the next season will provide more stability to his defense.
But Arteta remains rigid about his stance and shares that he has no idea about the reports. He also pays no heed to the conversations where lack of gametime may be a reason for the Scottish defender to move out of North London.
“I don’t know, I’m not thinking about it. I’m thinking about what’s best for the team and obviously and the players with the right to play minutes which they all deserve and we’re going to try to do that in the next couple of games,” Arteta’s reaction to the Tierney claims.
Arsenal signed Tierney from Celtic in 2019 as he was sensational for the Scottish outfit. He signed a five year contract in 2021 and was considered as one of the early names in the starting lineup for Arsenal. However injuries have hindered his progress and it has also forced Arteta to look for someone who could provide cover in the left back position.
Arteta saw an opportunity and he snapped up Zinchenko who can play in multiple roles. The Ukrainian has been in splendid form for the Gunners so it has been difficult for the Spanish tactician to maintain that synergy between the two left-backs and also provide each one with their satisfactory gametime.
Arsenal are currently fighting a very fierce battle for the Premier League title against reigning champions Manchester City. The Gunners are currently at the top of the points table and have a two point lead over the Citizens and also have a match in hand. Hence Arteta’s men will look to increase their lead at the top and win the league this time. They will host Everton in their next league clash on Thursday where City will play Newcastle United at home a couple of days later.
