I want Erling Haaland to break all records as it helps Manchester City: Pep Guardiola

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola wants Erling Haaland to break all records as it helps the team in savoring success. The Norwegian continued his red-hot form in the Premier League as he scored a brace in the team’s 3-1 win against Leicester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The lanky player scored from a penalty in the 13th minute after John Stones had put the home team in front in the fifth minute of play. Haaland then scored his second of the evening in the 25th minute.

With this brace, Haaland increased his overall tally to 32 goals to tie Liverpool Mohamed Salah’s mark for a 38-game season — and the 22-year-old youngster still has eight matches to play in the season.

“I want, I desire, he can break all the records as possible,” Guardiola said. “That means he’s scored a lot of goals, that means that helps us.

“But I think he wants to win the titles, to be there, and still we are there. But it’s impressive, (we) still have to play eight games and he’s close to breaking all of them.”

Moreover, Haaland had recently become the first player in English football to score a record 45 goals in a season in all competitions. Now the goal-scoring machine has a total of 47 goals.

“You see his body language, his face during the game. He’s like John (Stones), John and him come from injuries… and after 45 minutes, (it) was good for them to rest,” Guardiola said.

The Sky Blues will face table-toppers Arsenal on April 26. The Gunners currently have a four-point lead against City.

“It’s win, win and win,” Guardiola said. “(Arsenal) have done an incredible run of the season so far and I don’t think they’re going to drop much points.”

Manchester City will next face Sheffield United on Saturday in the FA Cup semifinals.
