“It was just too quiet in the stadium,” Antonio Rudiger highlights poor atmosphere at Stamford Bridge

Antonio Rudiger was a stalwart in defence for Chelsea before he decided to move on and join Real Madrid. The Germany international is still fitting in with Los Blancos as he is relishing the opportunity to work with an all time great manager in Carlo Ancelotti. Rudiger has also gelled up pretty well with the players and is still not sure whether he is really playing for the Royal Whites or is it just a dream.

Recently in an interaction with Sport1 he shared his experiences of the Premier League with Chelsea. He made various comments about his former club out of which his opinion on the Stamford Bridge atmosphere was interesting. The German defender shared how he used to wind up the fans during matches to amp up the intensity as they became very quiet at times.

He remembers how he was windmilling his arms while sprinting during Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Newcastle United last season. It was amusing for the fans as they found it very funny. But Rudiger shared how he did things to wind up the fans. He even said that he deliberately made mistakes so that the fans were on the edge of their seats.

“I’m doing it because I think I’m faster that way. If people find that amusing, I like to laugh along with them. Many will remember the scene you mentioned in Chelsea’s game against Newcastle last season,” Rudiger stated.

“I’ll be honest: I deliberately made a few mistakes because it was just too quiet in the stadium for me during this game. I wanted to wake people up with it,” he added.

It is interesting how Rudiger has found the atmosphere not loud enough for his liking. But the Chelsea home ground is one of the most iconic grounds in England and also in Europe. It has a decent capacity of over 40k fans and the Chelsea fans are very vocal about a lot of things. Starting from the players to the management. So it is very interesting how Rudiger is realizing these things now. The German is surely comparing the atmosphere in La Liga with that of the Bridge and probably has come to this conclusion.

Overall Rudiger played 203 for the West Londoners and won the Champions League, FA Cup and the Europa League during his time at the Bridge.
