Lionel Messi is regarded as one of the best players to have ever graced the game and every aspiring footballer dreams of sharing the pitch with the Argentine World Cup winner. Inter Miami midfielder Robert Taylor feels it is a dream come true for him to play alongside the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.
The Finnish player had signed with Inter Miami in the last season and little did he know that the club will make their biggest signing as they roped in Lionel Messi.
In fact, Taylor and Messi both scored a brace for Inter Miami as they mauled Atlanta United by 4-0 in the Leagues Cup last week. Taylor had also assisted in Messi’s second goal and shared his experience of playing with the veteran.
“I’ve watched him play all my life at the highest level, and now, to play with him and to be in the same team as him is crazy,” the 28-year-old told Sky Sports.
“You watch him train and play every day and try and learn from him.
Taylor lauded Messi for his decision-making during the match as well as the training and said the Argentine is just faultless.
“His decision-making is unbelievable – I can’t see him doing a wrong decision at all during the game or training, so you just want to try and learn.
“He comes to me and tells me how he wants me positioned in different situations.”
Meanwhile, Messi has been able to hit the ground running for Inter Miami, scoring thrice in the first two matches. Taylor added Messi’s addition has brought a lot of new energy into the club, which is struggling in Major League Soccer.
“Of course, it’s brought a lot of new energy to the team, the club and the fans,” said Taylor.
“The stadium is sold out, and it’s really great right now.
“We all enjoy it [the bigger atmosphere] – everyone wants to play in front of as many fans as there can be, so when it’s sold out, it’s great.”
Inter Miami will now take on Orlando City in the Leagues Cup.
