Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany is unlikely to return to the dugout before next month’s international break after he suddenly collapsed at the training ground last week.
The club is yet to reveal an official diagnosis for the 40-year-old, who was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.
The incident has caused concern among players and supporters, with no timeline yet given for his full recovery.
Kompany’s assistant, Aaron Danks, offered a positive update at a press conference on Tuesday, revealing he had visited the Belgian coach.
Danks reported that Kompany was in good spirits and improving day by day, though there was still no definitive prognosis.
He added that Kompany was calm, being given ample time to recover, and that their conversation was personal rather than about football or tactics.
According to reports, doctors are focusing their investigations on a possible issue involving the head or brain, as seizures can be caused by abnormal electrical activity. They may lead to involuntary muscle twitching or spasms.
Despite the serious nature of the collapse, sources say the incident was not considered life-threatening, which has reassured the club.
However, fresh reports suggest a quick return is not expected. Kompany is now unlikely to return for Bayern’s upcoming fixtures, including the crucial Bundesliga clash with Borussia Dortmund on October 31, the Champions League tie against Atlético Madrid on November 3, and the league game against Mainz on November 7.
Danks is expected to continue leading the team in Kompany’s absence as Bayern have asked for privacy for Kompany and his family during this period, while the squad remains focused on maintaining momentum on the pitch.
The club is expected to provide a further medical update when more information becomes available. For now, the priority remains Kompany’s health and a full recovery before any consideration of a return to coaching duties.
