Barcelona failed to beat Sevilla in their final La Liga of the year 2021 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan even though the home side played half of the second half with a man down.
A win would have placed Xavi Hernandez’s side in the top four, but his team fell behind when Alejandro Gomez scored the game’s opening goal in the 30th minute of the game from a free-kick routine.
However, Barcelona levelled before halftime through Ronald Araujo, who was scoring his second goal of the season for Barcelona.
The second half was more silent but Jules Kounde’s sending off was the biggest part of the half. The defender received his marching orders for throwing the ball at Jordi Alba, but the numerical advantage still didn’t count for Barcelona as they remained inseparable till full time.
Ousmane Dembele hit the post with a few minutes left to play while Gavi also went close, but Xavi believes that the result is the way despite believing that his team deserves to win.
Barcelona sits in seventh after the game with 28 points from 18 games, fifteen points away from table-topping Real Madrid and two points away from Rayo Vallecano that sits in the last top four spots.
Sevilla also missed the chance to cut Real Madrid’s lead at the top to three points, but they do lead third-placed Real Betis with five points.
Meanwhile, Villarreal scored five times as the Yellow Submarines thrashed Alaves 5-2. Gerard Moreno and Boulaye Dia scored in the first half as the host went into the break with a 2-1 scoreline after Pere Pons scored before halftime for the visitors.
Midway into the second half, Alaves scored through Joselu, but Dia and Gerard Moreno completed their braces while Yeremi Pino also added one for a convincing.
