Liverpool Crush Tottenham 5-1 to Seal Record-Equalling 20th Premier League Title

Liverpool roared to their 20th English top-flight crown with a commanding 5-1 win over Tottenham at a jubilant Anfield on Sunday, matching Manchester United as the joint-most successful club in English football history.

Arne Slot’s side overcame an early scare when Dominic Solanke headed Tottenham into a surprise 12th-minute lead. However, Liverpool responded with ferocity, feeding off the electric atmosphere created by the 60,000-plus crowd and a stirring rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

Luis Diaz quickly leveled the score, converting Dominik Szoboszlai’s cross, with VAR overturning an initial offside call. Alexis Mac Allister then fired the home side ahead with a powerful strike from the edge of the area in the 24th minute, sparking celebrations around Anfield.

The momentum stayed firmly with Liverpool as Cody Gakpo made it 3-1, punishing Spurs’ failure to clear their lines. Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, who made eight changes ahead of the Europa League semifinals, watched helplessly as his side struggled to contain the rampant Reds.

Liverpool fans, still yearning for the title celebrations they were denied in 2020 due to COVID-19, filled Anfield with songs and cheers throughout the second half. Their top scorer, Mohamed Salah, gave them another reason to celebrate, cutting inside before blasting in the fourth goal and delighting supporters with a selfie in front of the iconic Kop.

The rout was completed when Tottenham defender Destiny Udogie turned the ball into his own net, sealing a fifth goal for Liverpool with 20 minutes still to play.

As the final whistle blew, deafening roars and another chorus of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” echoed around the ground. Liverpool’s victory took them to 82 points, 15 clear of second-placed Arsenal with only four games remaining.

The triumph is particularly sweet for Arne Slot, who in his debut season silenced doubts about his ability to follow Jurgen Klopp’s highly successful era. Despite uncertainty over key players earlier in the season, with Salah and Virgil van Dijk securing new deals, Liverpool maintained their focus to clinch the title.

Meanwhile, Tottenham’s woes deepened as they slumped to 16th in the league after their 19th defeat, piling pressure on Postecoglou.

Outside Anfield, fans celebrated with flares, flags, and scarves bearing “Liverpool 20-time Champions,” savoring a historic day for the club.
