Liverpool FC faces an uncertain period as they await confirmation on the severity of Joel Matip’s injury sustained during their Premier League clash against Fulham last Sunday.
The defender was forced off the field in the 69th minute of the thrilling 4-3 victory at Anfield, and it’s reported that the issue is significant. Manager Jürgen Klopp confirmed Matip’s sidelining during the pre-Sheffield United press conference, expressing concern about the situation.
Regarding the duration of Matip’s absence, Klopp mentioned, “No, I don’t know exactly but it doesn’t look good, that’s something we can say. The scan is not done yet so we don’t know exactly, but it’s not great.”
He further added, “From the first second it was clear, we spoke to him and said, ‘No, that’s not good.’ But how long, I don’t know.”
This injury blow compounds Liverpool’s defensive concerns, adding to the absence of Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota, who have been sidelined since sustaining injuries during the match against Manchester City last month.
Commenting on Jota’s recovery progress, Klopp noted, “And everything goes in the right direction, but nobody told me he will be back in team training today. No, there is still some time.”
The situation with Alisson appears slightly more optimistic, as Klopp mentioned, “Obviously Ali is closer but not available for tomorrow definitely.”
The uncertainty surrounding Matip’s injury duration and the ongoing recoveries of Jota and Alisson presents a challenge for Liverpool as they navigate a busy schedule. Klopp and the team remain hopeful for swift recoveries but are preparing for the possibility of an extended absence for Matip in the heart of their defense.
The club’s fans are eagerly awaiting updates on these key players, hoping for positive news that could potentially alleviate the mounting injury concerns.
Liverpool is set to face Sheffield United in their upcoming fixture, hoping to maintain their momentum despite these setbacks.
