Lopetegui set to replace David Moyes at West Ham United

Former Real Madrid and Spanish national team manager Julian Lopetegui is set to be named as West Ham United’s boss later this week, a month after he had agreed to replace David Moyes at the end of the season.

The former Wolves manager reached an agreement with West Ham earlier in May, although no official deal had been signed. However, with the Premier League season concluded, the deal is expected to be finalized and official soon.

Lopetegui spent the second half of the 2022/2023 season with Wolves, and he will take over just before the start of pre-season, which includes a two-week trip to the United States for matches against Crystal Palace and Wolves.

His exit from Wolves was based on differences with the club regarding transfer funding, which forced him to leave just before the start of the season. He won the UEFA Europa League with Sevilla in 2020.

Meanwhile, David Moyes oversaw his last game as West Ham United manager on Sunday, and it ended in a 3-1 loss to Manchester City at Etihad Stadium, a result which saw Pep Guardiola’s side emerge champions for the fourth consecutive season.

Moyes claims that he has been contacted by other clubs to take over as their manager for the upcoming 2024/2025 season, but he has declined those offers in a bid to focus on his family and also focus on TV commitment for the Euro 2024 coming up in the summer in Germany.

In his final game in charge of the Hammers, David Moyes revealed that he will miss the club.

“It is my last game here, but I have not processed yet what exactly it is that I want to do. But what I do know is that I leave West Ham in a better place than when I started. If you asked other supporters about what we have done, then I imagine they would say it is pretty good for West Ham! I will miss it, but it will not stop me from watching it.” Moyes said.
