Lukaku returns to Napoli to meet Conte

Napoli striker Romelu Lukaku has met with coach Antonio Conte in order to be reinstated in the team.

This was revealed by his agent, Federico Pastorello, who confirmed that the Belgian striker will resume training with his Napoli teammates on Tuesday after returning from injury.

He added that the former Manchester United and Chelsea striker will meet with Conte, who will decide what to do.

The Belgium international returned to Naples after spending over one month in Antwerp, Belgium, for individual training sessions to regain full fitness.

Lukaku had refused to return to Naples against his club’s consent during the international break in March.

This led to a fine imposed on him, and he was, therefore, frozen out of the team. Although he returned to Naples for just one day towards the end of April to meet club directors with his agent, Pastorello.

As Lukaku and his representative did not meet with Conte at the time, the coach publicly expressed his dissatisfaction over his action.

“I know both [Lukaku and Conte] really well, and they both live football with great passion.

“That was not the right moment for a meeting, but they’ll do it today (Tuesday),” Pastorello told DAZN Belgium via TMW.

Confirming his return toNapoli’s training centre, his agent said he’ll resume training with the team now that he’s in better shape. Then the coach will decide what to do with him.

Lukaku was out of action due to a severe muscle injury at the beginning of the season, which forced him to the sidelines in the first part of the campaign.

The 32-year-old striker has played only 64 minutes across all competitions this season, scoring one goal.

With just a year left on his present deal, his future at the Stadio Maradona could be decided soon.

However, if both parties resolve their issues, he could play another important role next season and could be offered a new deal. by then.

But for now, it’s looking unlikely that he would be offered another deal; the other factor being his age and injury record.
