Manchester United ease past Wigan to FA Cup fourth round

On Monday night, Manchester United defeated lower league side Wigan 2-0 to secure their place in the next round of the English FA Cup. Manchester United scored a goal in each half of the game, with Diogo Dalot opening the scoring in the 22nd minute.

Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty in the second half to seal the victory as Erik Ten Hag’s side awaits the winner of the third-round tie between Newport and Eastleigh.

Ten Hag regretted his team’s missed chances in the first half and believed that they should have scored more goals, but nevertheless, they took the victory and shifted focus to their next game against Tottenham in the Premier League.

“The FA Cup is all about winning; it is knockout. You want to finish the job. That is what I said in the dressing room: ‘Job done.’ In the first half, I think we created five or six very good chances. I think it was very good football. We should have taken more, but if you don’t score, you have to stay focused, and I think we did that tonight. It is too far. You have to go game to game, especially in the cup. Our focus is on Spurs now.” Ten Hag said.
