Scott McTominay scored a late goal as Manchester United pipped Aston Villa to a 2-1 win at Villa Park on Sunday evening. Scott McTominay’s winner off the bench means Man Utd are now six games unbeaten in 2024. He’s also their top scorer in the league with seven goals.
Rasmus Højlund’s first 14 Premier League games didn’t provide him any goal or assist, but the Norwegian’s last five Premier League games have seen him score 5 goals and 2 assists after he scored a 14th-minute opener.
Harry Maguire headed on a corner which Hojlund tapped past Emiliano Martinez in Villa’s goal. The hosts continued to press in the first half, but Onana was on hand to save as United went into the break ahead.
“It is a massive win for us. We’ve got closer, and that was the aim for today. That was absolutely our target, and we’ve done it. The way we did it, I liked it. I especially liked the first 20 minutes when we controlled the game. At 1-1, we had to fight back, and we are really happy today. At 1-1, you always have to see how the game progresses, and I think it was really high intensity, and you could see how many players were fatigued by the end. It was so open, and it could go two ways, but we found the mentality and character to win the game. The subs also had an impact.” Ten Hag said.
Elsewhere, Arsenal scored six against West Ham to return level on points with Manchester City in second but two points behind league leaders Liverpool.
Bukayo Saka scored a brace as Arsenal scored four in the first half. William Saliba scored the opener for Nigeria after the half-hour mark before Saka’s penalty in the 41st minute.
Defender Gabriel scored Arsenal’s third in the 44th minute before a stoppage-time goal from Trossard. Declan Rice scored against his former team in the 65th minute, two minutes after Saka completed his brace.
