Aston Villa defender Matty Cash has committed his long-term future to the club after signing a new contract that will keep him at Villa Park until 2029.
The Polish international, who joined Villa from Nottingham Forest in 2020, has become a key figure in Unai Emery’s side and is now set to extend his stay by an additional two years beyond his previous 2027 deal.
Since arriving in Birmingham, Cash has made 193 appearances in claret and blue, earning a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most consistent right-backs.
His attacking energy and defensive reliability have made him a fan favourite, while his leadership and work ethic have helped solidify Villa’s position among England’s top clubs.
Cash’s new deal comes on the back of an impressive performance in Villa’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City, where he scored his second goal of the season.
Speaking after the match, the 28-year-old expressed his growing confidence in front of goal, saying, “I’ve always had a good shot, I’ve just never really shown it in games. This season it seems to be going my way, and every time I get the ball on the edge of the box, I feel like I’m going to hit the target.”
Born in England but eligible to represent Poland through his mother, Cash made the switch to the Polish national team in 2021.
Since then, he has earned 22 international caps and represented his adopted country at the 2022 World Cup, further enhancing his reputation on the global stage.
Under Unai Emery, Cash has thrived in a system that encourages full-backs to contribute both defensively and offensively.
His ability to transition quickly, press high, and deliver dangerous crosses has made him one of the most influential players in Villa’s setup as they continue to challenge for European qualification.
The new contract marks a significant show of faith from Aston Villa, reflecting the club’s ambition to retain key players amid growing interest from other Premier League sides.
