Mbappe: I wasn’t happy at PSG

French forward Kylian Mbappe revealed that he endured the final years of his contract with the French club Paris Saint-Germain, unhappy before exiting the club to join La Liga and UEFA Champions League champions Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old was officially announced as a Real Madrid signing on Monday after several months of buildup to his move, as his contract with the French club expires on June 30. Kylian Mbappe then signed a five-year contract with Real Madrid, and he is expected to be unveiled before the Euros start and to later team up with the Los Blancos after the tournament.

However, in his first interview since the official announcement of the move on Monday, the 2018 World Cup winner stated that many things made him unhappy at PSG, and for a long time, he was not pleased to be at the club.

“At PSG I wasn’t unhappy, that would be biting the hand that feeds you, and spitting in the face of all the people who defended me, but things and people made me unhappy. But there are things that you can’t show because I was a leader and you don’t follow someone who drags their sadness around.” said Mbappe on Tuesday.

This revelation is not too surprising, especially as there was a standoff between the player and the club after he refused to sign a contract extension last August, which eventually saw him frozen out of the team earlier in 2024.

However, Mbappe showed appreciation to Luis Enrique, the PSG manager, and adviser Luis Campos, for helping him deal with the situation. He said that they both saved him and that he would never have set foot on the field again if not for the duo.

Meanwhile, the forward has tagged his move to Real Madrid as a dream come true and hopes to win more trophies, as he has always loved to do. Mbappe won six league titles with PSG.
