Mbappé: Winning Champions League with PSG will be special

Paris Saint-Germain striker, Kylian Mbappé, has revealed that his ambition is to help the capital club win the UEFA Champions League.

The big-spending Ligue 1 title-winners has been looking to add the prestigious trophy to their cabinet, which will denote that they have reached the summit of European football.

PSG is still in the 2019-20 Champions League after overcoming Borussia Dortmund 3-2 on aggregate in the last knockout stage. However, the coronavirus pandemic has stopped all football actions since March.

Actions recently resume in the German Bundesliga without the spectators, but UEFA had insisted that it would complete the competition last won by an English club, Liverpool that had already been ousted by Athletico Madrid.

With the 2019-20 Ligue 1 season already declared over after the French government cancelled all sporting activities till September over the fear of a deadly virus’s resurgence, PSG is now looking forward to the European honours.

Speaking with the Mirror, as the date for resumption of the competition returns remains unclear, the FIFA World Cup winner said he has hopes of eventually lifting the UCL trophy in the colours of the Ligue 1 giant.

While declaring that it is his big ambition to be part of the first PSG players to win the trophy, the young talent said it would be very special.

The 21-year-old, who was not even born when PSG won its European Cup Winners’ Cup which is its only continental success so far in 1996 hit the headlines after breaking into the AS Monaco first team during the 2016-17 season where the team shocked many clubs to reach the Champions League Semi-final before losing to Juventus.

He has continued from where he stopped in Monaco by scoring 80 goals in 117 Ligue 1 games. The highlight of his career so far in the domestic front is the 64 goals he has scored in just 76 games since joining PSG in 2018.

Since joining the club, he has won the FIFA World Cup with France, four Ligue 1 titles, a Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue.

Having emerged 2019 FIFA World Player of the year, Mbappé finished inside the top ten in the last three years, which include the best of fourth in 2018.

Speaking on being tipped as the future world footballer of the year, the 21-year-old insisted that his main priority is his team success.
