AS Roma manager José Mourinho has played down the assumption that his experience in competitive finals will help his team clinch the Europa Conference League title.
The Seria A side will face Eredivise side, Feyenoord, in the final today in Tirana.
Speaking ahead of the final at a press conference, Mourinho, who have won Champions and Europa League trophies with Porto, Inter, and Manchester United, believes his experience won’t determine the outcome of the tie.
This will be Roma’s first European Finals in 31 years.
The Special One pointed out that they are playing two finals in four days.
Roma secured a Europa League spot with a 3-0 win over Torino last weekend. This, he said, is deserved, and now they can consolidate that by being the first team to win the competition.
While noting that it’s natural for Roma to get a European placement, Mourinho said the final is history, and they must give their all to finish the job.
Giving the team’s injury report, he said Henrik Mkhitaryan, who picked up an injury in the Conference League semis against Leicester City at the beginning of May, is now available for selection.
He revealed that the Armenian trained for the first time with the squad on Tuesday, which he said was pretty meaningless because it was open to the media.
The Special One also said there will be nothing else in his head as experience doesn’t help, contrary to what he thought. He added that he feels the same as in his first final. This, he said, has made him remain focused on the clash.
If Roma wins the tie, it will be their first trophy since they won the 2008 Coppa Italia under Luciano Spalletti.
It will be a success for Roma this season if they win the title.
