Jamal Musiala will sit out Bayern Munich’s 2026/27 Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart on Friday as the German champions carefully manage his return after two worrying pre-season collapses.
According to reports in the German media, the 23-year-old Germany international is expected to resume full team training this week.
However, he will not be included in the squad for the season’s first league match. The decision reflects Bayern’s cautious approach following the midfielder’s health issues earlier in the summer.
Musiala collapsed on the pitch during friendly matches against RB Leipzig and Heidenheim. He later confirmed a diagnosis of absence seizures linked to a neurological dysfunction.
Since then, the talented attacking midfielder has been working closely with Bayern’s medical staff and head coach Vincent Kompany.
Their focus remains on fine-tuning and regulating his medication to reduce the risk of any further episodes and ensure a safe return to competitive action.
The absence creates a temporary gap in Bayern’s creative midfield options. Nathaniel Brown could again be asked to fill a central attacking role, having impressed in that position during Saturday’s 2-1 DFL-Supercup victory over Borussia Dortmund.
Alternatively, new signing Ismael Saibari remains another possibility. The Moroccan international is still building match fitness after recovering from an injury sustained while representing his country at the World Cup.
Bayern will look to start their title defense strongly against Stuttgart without one of their most dynamic players. Musiala’s gradual reintegration will be closely monitored in the coming weeks as the club prioritizes his long-term health and form.
Bayern kick off their 2026/2027 Bundesliga campaign as they defend their title, hosting VFB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena on Friday, 28th August 2026.
