My time at Arsenal was not good, says former Brazil and Chelsea winger Willian

Brazilian international Willian has terminated his contract with Arsenal and has left to rejoin Brazilian outfit Corinthians. He admitted that he was not happy during his time at the North London outfit, hence explaining his decision to join Corinthians.

Arsenal roped in Willian on the summer transfer window in 2020 after his contract expired with Chelsea. He was one of the most consistent wide midfielders in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge.

Willian was offered a three year deal at Arsenal but he failed to replicate his exceptional form in his first year at Emirates Stadiums. The Brazilian winger decided to cut short his entire contract and decided to return to Brazil to rejoin Corinthians.

The 33-year-old revealed how unhappy he was at the Emirates Stadium before he terminated his contract to come back to Brazil. He opened up on a lot of things but made some shocking revelations regarding the North London outfit.

“I really thought about it a lot together with my family and close friends. Unfortunately, my time at Arsenal was not good. I was not happy there,” the 33-year-old told Corinthians TV.

“I just wasn’t happy, but I will not go into details. But I thought that it was better to come back to Brazil. I looked into some other opportunities but I wanted to come back to Corinthians.

“I wanted to come back home to be near my family. A club that projected me to the world that unveiled me and I think now was the right time to come back.”

The Brazilian international had a starting spot in Mikel Arteta coached team. He made 37 appearances for the Gunners before mutually terminating his contract and returning to his homeland.

He scored only a solitary goal along with seven assists for the North London outfit and hardly had any impact in Arsenal slipping out of European competitions for the first time in 25 years.

Arsenal invested the highest amount of money this summer and saw several players join the club. However, they could only manage to sell Willian and Joe Willock, who joined Newcastle United for £26 million after an impressive loan stint with the Magpies.
