Neil Lennon: Edouard will only get better

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has praised forward Odsonne Edouard and admitted the forward could only get better. Edouard and fellow  Leigh Griffiths have been in great form since the beginning of the year.

Lennon’s decision to revert to a two-person [Edouard and Griffiths] upfront has paid off so far, which has wrecked so much havoc for opposition defenders.

Celtic ended the previous year (2019) with a home defeat to rivals Rangers. This led to Lennon to jettison the 4-2-3-1 formation used by former manager Brendan Rodgers.

However, his adopted 3-5-2 formation has been brilliant so far, which has seen the hoops lead the proceedings at the top of the SPFL table with 13 points and 25 goals so far adrift of Rangers who are placed second on the table who still have a game at hand.

Following the return from the winter break, Lennon’s men have gathered 40 goals from 13 league matches while Rangers have scored just 18 times from the same number of games played by the Scottish champions.

Since Griffiths returned to the starting lineup, he has been reborn, scoring essential goals. His strike partnership with Edouard has been phenomenal.

Lennon revealed in an exclusive interview that patience was the key they had with Griffiths while he had to show the hunger and desire.

” He is a natural goalscorer, and that can’t be bought anywhere. I gave the new formation a thought about how it will suit us, but it has brought the very best from Odsonne as well”.

“Edouard is a hardworking and top player. With Griffiths on his side, it will take a little bit of the pressure from him. I know for sure that when he entirely comes of age, he will be a dangerous forward and more threat in the final third.”

Looking at Edouard, he just turned 22, and there is room for growth and improvement to become a top striker when he reaches the peak of his age.
