Onana admits error as Manchester United lose in Munich

Manchester United goalkeeper Andrea Onana has admitted his errors in Manchester United’s 4-3 loss at the Allianz Arena to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. The Red Devils, who were in the game until Onana failed to save Leroy Sane’s shot, conceded a penalty and also scored two late goals.

The scoreline flatters Manchester United, who were numb in attack in the first half until Rasmus Hojlund scored very early into the second half. Leroy Sane opened the scoring in the 20th minute of the game before Serge Gnabry doubled it four minutes later.

Rasmus Hojlund pulled one back for Manchester United in the 49th minute, but Harry Kane returned Bayern Munich’s two-goal advantage four minutes later from the penalty spot.

Midfielder Casemiro went on to start a frantic final five minutes to the game after scoring in the 88th minute to make it 3-2, only for Mathys Tel to double the host’s advantage again in the second minute of stoppage time, leaving Casemiro’s second goal in the fifth minute of additional time as a consolation.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana then explained that his mistake changed the direction of the game as the Cameroonian continues to experience a tough start to life at Old Trafford.

“It’s difficult. We started very good. After my mistake, we lost control of the game. It’s a difficult situation for us, for me. The team were one down because of that mistake. I have to learn from it and be strong. I’m happy with the comeback of the team. I have a lot to prove. My start in Manchester hasn’t been so good, not how I want. This was one of my worst games. We have big ambitions. It’s a tough time. We have to be together and work hard.” Onana said.

Manchester United will travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley in the Premier League at the weekend.
