Rashford in limbo as Manchester United makes stance clear

Manchester United have reportedly decided against reintegrating Marcus Rashford into their squad, casting further doubt over his long-term future as uncertainty surrounds a potential permanent move to FC Barcelona.

The England international is currently on a season-long loan at the Catalan club, but indications suggest his time at Old Trafford may already be over.

Despite a recent social media interaction in which Rashford congratulated United on their return to the UEFA Champions League, the gesture has done little to change the club’s stance.

Reports indicate that United’s hierarchy are keen to move on from the forward permanently, with his high wages, set to rise significantly in July, seen as a key factor behind the decision.

Rashford’s future in Spain, however, remains unresolved. Barcelona hold an option to sign the 28-year-old permanently for £26 million, but have yet to activate the clause.

While he has contributed 13 goals in 46 appearances, his performances have dipped in recent weeks, raising concerns within the club about committing to a full transfer.

The forward has notably struggled for game time toward the end of the season, failing to start any of Barcelona’s last five matches.

His form also came under scrutiny during their Champions League quarter-final exit to Atlético Madrid, further complicating his prospects of securing a permanent stay at Camp Nou.

Off the pitch, Rashford appears to be distancing himself from his parent club, reportedly preferring not to return to Manchester.

His rebranding on social media to ‘MR14’, reflecting his Barcelona squad number, has been viewed as another signal of his desire to continue his career away from Old Trafford, even as uncertainty lingers over Barcelona’s final decision.

Meanwhile, United head coach Michael Carrick has remained cautious when addressing Rashford’s situation.

The forward has not played for the club since December 2024 and previously fell out of favour after being placed in a pre-season ‘bomb squad’ and losing his number 10 shirt.

With the summer transfer window approaching and international commitments on the horizon, Rashford’s future remains unresolved, leaving all parties facing a critical decision in the coming weeks.
