Dortmund release injury update as Bensebaini likely out for season

Borussia Dortmund will have to navigate the final stretch of the Bundesliga season without key defender Ramy Bensebaini, as the Algerian international continues to struggle with a foot injury.

Coach Niko Kovač confirmed on Wednesday that Bensebaini will miss Friday’s home clash against Eintracht Frankfurt, with little hope of him featuring in the season finale against Werder Bremen.

Kovač stated that Bensebaini would not be available and was still experiencing pain in his foot.

He added that he personally did not expect the 30-year-old to recover in time for the Bremen match either, meaning it was likely the end of his Bundesliga campaign for this season.

However, there is better news for BVB supporters on the injury front.

Attacker Karim Adeyemi is making excellent progress and is widely expected to be available for selection against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Centre-back Niklas Süle and midfielder Felix Nmecha are also advancing in their recoveries.

Kovač explained that a final decision on Süle and Nmecha’s availability would be made after the final training session on Thursday.

He said they still had one more session the following day to determine whether Niki and Felix would be fit enough for the weekend.

These potential returns come at an important time for Borussia Dortmund.

With Bensebaini sidelined, defensive reinforcements may be required, making the possible comebacks of Süle and Nmecha even more significant.

Adeyemi’s expected return, in particular, offers attacking threat and squad depth as the team aims to end the season positively.

Overall, while one key player is ruled out, Dortmund’s squad is showing signs of strengthening as the campaign draws to a close.
