Raul Gonzalez wants to stay at the Spanish capital amid rumours of him replacing Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid

Real Madrid legend, Raul Gonzalez who is currently the head coach of the Real Madrid Castilla is currently being proposed as the new manager for the Blancos. It is happening mainly due to the fact that Zinedine Zidane has decided to step down from his managerial role at the club.

The current rumours include the likes of Massimiliano Allegri, Raul Gonzalez and even Joachim Low as the possible successors of the French tactician once he departs this coming summer.

Amid all these rumours, Raul Gonzalez has opened up and has suggested that he wants to stay at the club as Madrid is his home.

The former Spain international who also plied his trade once at Schalke has done good work with the Castilla and therefore even some of the Bundesliga clubs have him on their radar. Whereas a lot of fans and even a few people in the management is titled towards making Raul the next manager.

For the time being Raul dismissed the Bundesliga rumours and said that he is not leaving the Spanish capital.

“This is my home and this is where I want to be. This is not the time to talk about anyone’s future,” he told Marca. “We’ve learned a lot this year. I’m an employee of the club. Since I decided to become a coach three or four years ago it’s best to do it at home, at my club, gaining experience and coaching in the best way. I’m a club man, I’m happy at home and I’m excited to continue.”

Several reports on various media outlets have covered the circumstances of Zidane leaving Real Madrid in the coming summer. Goal reported that the Frenchman has shared the news of his departure with his players ahead of their match against Athletic Bilbao. While there are reports on Marca suggesting that the Blancos management wants to start afresh and hence will make wholesale changes to the team and therefore they want a new coach to start the transition process.

It has been a very tough season for Zidane as a manager as he was constantly running out of players due to persistent injury concerns. Still, he had the pressure on doing well in the La Liga and also in the Champions League. The Frenchman did his best to guide Real Madrid to the semifinals of the Champions League and are still in contention for the league title until the last two gameweeks.
