Real Madrid beats Osasuna to move closer to La Liga title

Real Madrid moved inches closer to the La Liga title on Wednesday evening when they beat Osasuna 3-1 in the La Liga. Real Madrid, who is gunning for the double of the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League, went into the game on the back of a scintillating 3-2 comeback victory against Sevilla last weekend.

The comeback was completed by French forward Karim Benzema, who scored in stoppage time on Sunday, but the striker was not on target on Wednesday evening. Rather, he provided the assist when Real Madrid took the lead through David Alaba in the 12th minute.

However, Ante Budimir put the home side level in the next minute before Marco Asensio ensured that Real Madrid went into the break in front. The Spaniard scored on the stroke of half-time to put Real Madrid in the league lead. The goal was his ninth of the season.

However, Karim Benzema then missed two different penalties in the second half. The first was in the 52nd minute before missing another one seven minutes later. He failed to add to his 25 goals so far, but Real Madrid was able to add one more to the score on the night as Lucas scored deep into stoppage time.

The Los Blancos just need four more points from the remaining five games of the La Liga season to secure the title. They were helped on further after Atletico Madrid was held to a goalless draw by Granada at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium.

Real Madrid has 78 points while Atletico Madrid has 61 from 33 games as well; Barcelona has two games in hand and sits in third with 60 points.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men are still in the UEFA Champions League semifinal and will play Manchester City next.

Meanwhile, Barcelona will face Real Sociedad on Thursday.
