Real Madrid fear serious injury to goalkeeper

Concern is mounting at Real Madrid following an injury scare involving star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois during their recent clash with Manchester City.

The Belgian international was forced off at half-time after experiencing discomfort, initially believed to be a minor adductor overload.

However, fresh reports suggest the issue could be significantly more serious than first thought.

According to reports, there is growing fear within the club that Courtois may have suffered a high-grade muscle tear.

While definitive medical tests are scheduled once the inflammation subsides, early indications have raised alarm bells inside the Madrid camp. What initially appeared manageable is now being treated with far greater caution.

Further updates from Spanish outlet AS indicate that Courtois is almost certain to miss the upcoming La Liga derby against Atlético Madrid.

Initial examinations reportedly point toward a tear in his right adductor, rather than a simple overload, leaving his short-term availability in serious doubt.

The potential implications extend beyond domestic competition. A high-grade tear could jeopardize Courtois’ participation in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals against Bayern Munich next month.

With crucial fixtures approaching in early April, Real Madrid face an anxious wait for clarity on the severity of the injury.

Reports also reveal that the problem began before kick-off against Manchester City. Courtois felt a slight twinge during the warm-up but, after consulting with medical staff, opted to start the match.

At half-time, with the team in a comfortable position, the decision was made to substitute him as a precaution.

In the meantime, Andriy Lunin is expected to step in as deputy. Despite Courtois’ importance, Real Madrid remain confident in Lunin’s abilities, with the Ukrainian having previously delivered strong performances in key matches, including during their recent Champions League-winning campaign.

Real Madrid will be in action in the La Liga this weekend with a Madrid derby against city rivals Atletico Madrid.
