Real Madrid open 8 points lead in La Liga title race

 

Real Madrid opened is a 7-point lead at the top of the La Liga table after beating one of the nearest challenger in Real Sociedad 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday evening.

After a tight contest in the first 45 minutes of the game, Real Madrid took the lead immediately after the restart through inform Brazilian forward Vinicius Jnr.

Luka Jovic who provided Vinicius Jnr’s opener scored the team’s second just ten minutes later in the 57th minute of the game.

Real Madrid were hit with an injury problem with Karim Benzema getting substituted early in the first half replaced by Luka Jovic.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti spoke about the availability of the French striker for the UEFA Champions League clash with Seria A champions Inter Milan during the week and then the Madrid derby in the La Liga next weekend.

“The Benzema thing does not seem serious at all, but I do not think it will be available for Tuesday, Karim has had a problem, it bothered him a little and it didn’t I think [he will be there] for Tuesday, but maybe for Sunday, yes,” Ancelotti said.

Real Madrid will face Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League in their next game before facing Atletico Madrid in the Spanish La Liga next weekend.

The Los Blancos have 39 points from 16 games and 8 points more than Sevilla and 9 more than Real Betis. However, they are ten points above defending champions Atletico Madrid, Diego Simeone’s side lost to a last minute goal from Takefusa Kubo who is on loan from Real Madrid. Matheus Cunha gave the Wanda metropolitano side the lead before Franco Russo equalised.

Meanwhile, Barcelona lost to Real Betis by 1-0 on Saturday, inflicting Xavi’s first La Liga defeat as Barcelona coach. Athletico Madrid also lost 2-1 at home to Mallorca.
