Real Madrid overcome early scare to thrash Las Palmas 4-1

Real Madrid came from behind to comfortably beat Las Palmas 4-1 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, extending Los Amarillos’ winless away record in La Liga H2Hs to 36 matches. The hosts knew a win would take them top of the table, but they suffered an early blow when Fábio Silva scored for Las Palmas just 28 seconds into the game.

However, Real Madrid were back on level terms in the 23rd minute when Kylian Mbappé coolly converted a penalty, awarded after Sandro Ramírez brought down Rodrygo. The hosts took complete control of the game from then on, with Brahim Diaz scoring in the 33rd minute after Jasper Cillessen had made several impressive saves to deny Mbappé and Rodrygo.

Mbappé got his second goal of the game just three minutes later, applying a clinical first-time finish to Rodrygo’s bouncing pass. The Frenchman had the ball in the net again before halftime but was denied a hat-trick by an offside call. Real Madrid continued to dominate in the second half, with Rodrygo scoring in the 58th minute to make it 4-1.

Las Palmas’ night went from bad to worse in the 64th minute when Benito Ramírez was sent off for a high challenge on Lucas Vázquez. Real Madrid had several more chances to score but were denied by offside calls and impressive saves from Cillessen. The win marked Real Madrid’s first 90-minute victory in three competitive matches.

The result sees Real Madrid return to the top of the LaLiga table, above city rivals Atlético Madrid. Las Palmas, on the other hand, have suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time under their current manager. The win was also a special night for David Alaba, who came on to rapturous applause after 399 days out injured.

Real Madrid’s dominant performance will be a major concern for Las Palmas, who face an uphill battle to turn their season around. Meanwhile, Los Blancos will be looking to build on this momentum as they seek to defend their La Liga title.
