Real Madrid reaches agreement with Ivorian youngster

Real Madrid are closing in on the signing of highly rated Ivory Coast forward Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig after both clubs reportedly reached an agreement in principle for the 19-year-old.

The deal, which has progressed rapidly over the past few days, is expected to make Diomande the Spanish giants’ fifth signing of the 2026 summer transfer window.

Negotiations between the two clubs intensified after Real Madrid saw an initial €100 million bid rejected by the Bundesliga side.

However, the La Liga club are understood to have returned with an improved offer closer to Leipzig’s reported €120 million valuation, paving the way for a breakthrough in talks.

Diomande had previously been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and was believed to favour a switch to the French champions earlier in the transfer window.

Real Madrid’s entry into the race, however, changed the direction of negotiations, with the player quickly agreeing personal terms to join the Santiago Bernabéu outfit.

The teenager is expected to travel to Madrid in the coming days to complete the remaining formalities before signing his contract.

Once confirmed, Diomande is expected to strengthen an already formidable attacking unit featuring Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior, and Jude Bellingham, with plans for him to operate primarily from the right wing.

Real Madrid have consistently demonstrated a willingness to invest heavily in emerging talent, having previously secured the signatures of Jude Bellingham, Endrick Felipe, and Franco Mastantuono in recent years.

The club believes Diomande possesses the quality and potential to become a long-term cornerstone of the first team despite his relatively limited experience at the highest level.

Should the transfer be completed, Diomande will become one of the most expensive signings in Real Madrid’s history.

Although spending well over €100 million on a player with only one full top-flight season carries a degree of risk, the European champions appear convinced that the young Ivorian has the ability to justify the significant investment in the years ahead.
