Real Madrid star threatens La Liga over racism

In a bid to continue the fight against and end racism in football, especially in the Spanish top-flight, Brazilian forward and Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has revealed the drastic action that his Los Blancos teammates will take drastic actions if he or any of his teammates faces racism this season.

Vinicius Junior has been subjected to multiple racism attacks in the last few seasons, and in the 2023/2024 season, he faced a racial attack at a match on 21 May 2023, and three Valencia were sent to eight months in prison for their racial attack.

Earlier this year, he revealed he didn’t feel like playing football anymore at a Brazilian national team press conference, and on Wednesday, Vinicius revealed that he and his teammates will be forced to walk off the pitch if racism reoccurs.

“We do need to leave the field so things can change as soon as possible. In the club, we talk about it more often. Not just me, but all [the] players said that if that happens, the next time everyone has to leave the field. So that all of those people who insulted us have to pay a much bigger penalty.” he said.

Meanwhile, the Ballon d’Or hopeful says he already sees and feels the difference in Spain, stating that although there could still be some fans who are still racists, they are becoming afraid to express themselves on the football field and in places where there are a lot of cameras.

The forward believes he’s changing the mindset of Spanish fans and that efforts will continue to reduce racism, little by little, even though they won’t be able to end it. Real Madrid have won one and drawn one of their first two La Liga games so far, and Carlo Ancelotti’s men are traveling to Las Palmas on Thursday.
