Real Madrid to be without Trent Alexander-Arnold due to injury

Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to be sidelined for around two months after suffering a thigh injury during Real Madrid’s 3-0 La Liga victory over Athletic Club in Bilbao.

The England right-back was forced off early in the second half after picking up the injury and required medical attention before leaving the pitch.

The 27-year-old had just registered his first La Liga assist for Real Madrid in the match, marking a rare high point in what has been a frustrating start to life in Spain.

However, his evening ended abruptly when he pulled up in the 55th minute, cutting short his involvement in a game that Madrid ultimately controlled comfortably.

Alexander-Arnold’s latest setback adds to a difficult debut season at the Bernabeu following his summer move from Liverpool.

He has been limited to just 11 appearances in all competitions so far after previously missing six weeks with a hamstring strain earlier in the campaign.

Sources have confirmed that the thigh injury is expected to keep him out for approximately two months, dealing another blow to both Real Madrid and England.

The defender is now unlikely to return until early 2026, further disrupting his rhythm as he attempts to establish himself in Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Real Madrid’s defensive options are already stretched, with Spain right-back Dani Carvajal also ruled out until the new year.

As a result, Uruguay midfielder Federico Valverde is expected to continue filling in at full-back as the club navigates a congested domestic and European schedule.

The injury also raises concerns for England head coach Gareth Southgate, with Alexander-Arnold’s fitness set to be closely monitored ahead of upcoming international commitments, especially the preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With his club minutes already restricted this season, the extended absence could have significant implications for his role with both club and country in the months ahead.
